Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

IDH2 (isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 (NADP⁺), mitochondrial) gene encodes a NADP⁺-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase predominantly found in the mitochondria. It plays an intermediary role in the exchange of metabolites between the mitochondria and the cytosol, and energy production. It is associated with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and is essential for shuttling electrons between the mitochondria and the cytosol. This gene had been found to be mutated in high proportions in gliomas. Mutations in IDH2 is more common than in IDH1 (another isoform of IDH) in cases of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Both IDH1 and IDH2 are essential for cell proliferation.
